Resident Evil Requiem Shines on Nintendo Switch 2 in New TGS Gameplay
Given recent footage and reports from the Tokyo Game Show this year, many assume that Capcom's Resident Evil Requiem did better than was anticipated for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Hands-On Reports Praise the Handheld Experience
At TGS, demos were set up and provided the opportunity for some side-by-side comparisons between the PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. According to Famitsu, the actual gameplay experience in handheld mode on the Switch 2 is close to the PS5. The reporter noted that the atmosphere and eeriness of the game have, more or less, been retained on the portable hardware.
Visuals and Performance Analysis
Shacknews, among others, corroborates the reports through some off-screen examinations. Visual fidelity levels are reported to be running quite high, and some effects, such as hair rendering, could be said to exceed that of the trailer revealed during the initial announcement for Switch 2.
In terms of the performance, however, there seems to be no doubt that the game is more often than not running over 30 FPS in that footage, albeit with drops at certain points. This has raised the speculation that the title is running at unlocked frame rate which is a fairly adopted trade for RE Engine titles, that can't hold 60 FPS.
Handheld Ray Tracing is a Major Home Start
One major tech insight is that Resident Evil Requiem has some form of ray tracing on the Nintendo Switch 2. To achieve ray tracing on the handheld while achieving a frame rate above 30 FPS most of the time is an impressive feat in itself, which alone speaks volumes about the hardware power and RE Engine scalability.
Release Date and Platforms
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for release on February 27th on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
