Microsoft Will Raise Prices on Xboxes Again; This Time for US Consumers
Microsoft has announced a second price increase for its Xbox Series X and Series S in the United States this year, starting on October 3, 2025. Several months back, the price hike came into effect for the consoles in May. This most recent hike that came into effect this October adds to the total value of the consoles in the last several months.
New Prices for Xbox Consoles in Effect From October 3rd
Though prices for accessories, such as controllers and headsets, remain unchanged at the moment, the price increases range from $20-$70 depending on the model. The following are the new RRPs set for the US market:
- Xbox Series S (512GB): $399.99 ($20 Up)
- Xbox Series S (1TB): $449.99 ($20 Up)
- Xbox Series X Digital: $599.99 ($50 Up)
- Xbox Series X: $649.99 ($50 Up)
- Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X 2TB: $799.99 ($70 Up)
Total Price Increase in 2025
This is the second price increase in the United States in about five months. The first price hike was in May, which increased the price of the Xbox Series X by $100 and that of the Series S by $80. According to this most recent price increase, the overall price increase by which the standard Xbox Series X has jumped in the US so far this year is $150. The 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition also experienced a soaring price hike of $200 in that same time frame.
Why Soaring Prices
The changes in price were formally attributed by Microsoft to "changes to the macroeconomic environment." The very fact that the price hikes are occurring only in the United States, however, indicates that ongoing tariffs on goods manufactured in China are the leading source. Other countries outside the United States and territories will not witness changes in console pricing at this time.
A Trend across the Industry
Microsoft is not the only company adopting this measure. Last month, the company announced a $50 price increase on the PlayStation 5 consoles for the US market. Similarly, Nintendo has raised prices on some of the accessories for the new Switch 2, which clearly indicates that the hardware price adjustments have affected the entire console market due to similar economic pressures.
