Windows 11 Revisiting How to Enable Updated Start Menu Manually
Microsoft is in the testing phase for a redesigned Start menu for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 via the optional update KB5067036. The official release is expected in November, but the new feature can be enabled as per the following steps at present.
What New Features Does the Update Start Menu Introduce
Newly redesigned menus address some criticisms that users had about the original design of Windows 11.
- A Single Page View: The menu no longer has separate pages for pinned and all apps; it now opens directly to a complete list of your installed applications.
- Customizable Recommended: You can now completely disable the "Recommended" section more space for your pinned shortcuts.
- Layout Options: There are three types of program list layouts supported: a grid layout, a list layout, or a category-aware one.
Step-By-Step Instructions To Enable The New Start Menu
The updated interface is obtained by installing the correct update and using a utility called ViVeTool to enable experimental features.
- Windows Update Installation: First, ensure that your system has the optional update KB5067036 installed.
- Download ViVeTool: Get ViVeTool Utility from its Official Page on GitHub.
- Run Command Prompt with Admin Rights: After installing the utility, Right-click the Start button on your taskbar, and select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Paste in Activation Command: In the newly opened Command Prompt window, copy and paste in the command below and hit Enter:
vivetool /enable /id:57048231,47205210,56328729,48433719 - Restart Your Computer: Change will only take effect after restarting your PC.
Post Restarting
The new start menu is to be visible once your system reboots. Unassuming minor interface changes that include the reworked battery indicator come with this update.
