MAXSUN Announces B850 BKB Motherboard with Hidden GPU Slot for AMD CPUs
After its Intel equivalent, hardware producer MAXSUN has finally rolled out the MS-Terminator B850 BKB WiFi motherboard for AMD Ryzen CPUs of types 7000, 8000, and 9000. The most important thing about this board is that it features a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot on its back, which allows for an alternative way to mount a graphics card.
A New Approach to GPU Mounting
The main intent for this back-slot design is that most problems were solved in PC building especially in smaller or vertical systems. Here are the main advantages:
- No Riser Cable Needed: It directly mounts the graphics card on the back side of the motherboard, doing away with PCIe extension cables that could sometimes cause signal instability.
- Hangs Off GPU Sag: Weight oriented in vertical orientation is self-supporting, meaning no support problems exist for GPU sagging under the natural support of heavy horizontally mounted cards.
- Better Signal Stability: As the connection is made directly to the motherboard, it is much more stable than when attached via extension cable.
- Reinforced Cooling Potentials: The vertical layout can improve airflow around the GPU.
This design is for a few selected PC cases like MasterBox iF15, which allows sideways-facing GPUs, and is likely to decrease the depth of the required chassis.
Known Specifications and Connectivity
Though an official product page is not available at the moment, MAXSUN has already shared some major features about the Mini-ITX motherboard:
- Chipset: AMD B850
- Form Factor: Mini-ITX
- Main GPU Slot: 1x PCIe 5.0 x16 (located on the back side)
- Extra Expansion: 1x PCIe x4 slot (located on the front side)
- Memory: 2x DDR5 DIMM slots probably supporting up to 96 GB of memory.
- Storage: 2x M.2 slots (one on the front, one in the back) and 2 SATA ports.
- Connectivity: Built-in WiFi adapter with six or more USB ports, display outputs, and three audio jacks on the I/O panel.
What We Still Don't Know
VRM configuration specifics, RAM frequency support, and the precise WiFi version and any headers available are some details still pending. Expect more complete information from MAXSUN soon.
