Ubisoft Massive Restructures for The Division Offers Voluntary Exit Program Amid Layoff News

Ubisoft Massive Renovates Primarily to The Division and Proposes Voluntary Exit

More restructuring was heard within the company after the layoff news from studio Ubisoft RedLynx involving yet another main developer, Ubisoft Massive Entertainment. The studio will now start implementing a "voluntary career transition program," structured as a layoff severance and support package extended to employees who decide to leave.

The Official Reason: Restructuring for Sharpened Focus

This, said in a public statement, it forms part of an internal strategic alignment to strengthen future projects that are going to come from the studio, mainly focused now on the Division franchise and the technologies, including Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect, that power our games."

Furthermore, it sets the program as a supportive measure for that transition, giving eligible team members the opportunity to take their next career step on their own terms.

Context: Snowdrop Engine and Latest Releases

The recent major titles that the studio Massive released were Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, both of which are technically impressive but have failed to meet the company's standards, which again is reflected in commercial lackluster sales.)

Regardless of these commercial results, the underlying Snowdrop Engine developed by Massive is often referred to as one of the most beautiful engines of the present-day generation.

Understanding the Program "Voluntary"

It is true that this initiative is framed as employee choice, but in the industry, as so often the case, a voluntary program such as this is considered, in essence, a redundancy exercise without termination. In fact, 'eligible' is interpreted by many as less-than-nuanced signaling that an employee's job is less secure.

Devoted Future Projects

As a reminder, Massive Entertainment is committed entirely to its current roadmap. The studio also confirms the continuing builds of these The Division universe titles:

  • The Division: Survivor
  • The Division
  • The Division Resurgence
  • The Division 3
