Counterplay Games Reveals Armatus at Xbox Partner Preview

Opening the recent Xbox Partner Preview event with the announcement of Armatus, the studio praised for designing the console launch title, Godfall, is developing its newest project. Focusing on third-person action as with their previous title, Armatus promises to hold an entirely different atmosphere and story tone.

Dystopian Paris A Fractured Reality

Armatus ushers you into a warped version of Paris where reality is fleeting and planes of existence collide. The narrative setup involves summoning and religion:

  • Setting: Paris in a dystopia, marked by all kinds of cruel intersections of different realities.
  • Goal: You are summoned by the last four members of the Armatus, an ancient order of faith, forsaken by God.
  • Role: You act as their champion, tasked with battling on their behalf to earn a pathway into the heaven.

Developer Insights and Release Window

Senior Writer to Counterplay Games, Matt Cerami, said that the entire team is emotionally engaged and involved in the development of the game in an Xbox Wire post. The Armatus, he has said, is the result of "heart, soul and fire-forged brotherhood," with the team mostly surpassing odds that seemed insurmountable to bring this vision into the public.

While not much is known about the combat systems, Armatus is slated for release sometime in 2026.
