JPR Report Growth in the Client CPU Market for Third Straight Quarter in Q3 2025
The Jon Peddie Research (JPR) third-quarter 2025 report on the global client CPU and integrated GPU market highlights a continuing sequential increase in shipments of client and server CPUs, though the client market still pales compared to last year.
Client CPU Market Highlights
The global client CPU market expanded for the third consecutive quarter:
- Shipments were up 2.2% over the last quarter;
- Shipments decreased by 2.2% over the same quarter last year.
JPR attributes the bulk of this growth to the end-of-life for Windows 10 and some "buy ahead of the tariffs" activity.
Server CPU Market Performance
There were strong quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year gains in the server CPU sector:
- Shipments were up 2.7% compared to the previous quarter.
- Shipments increased 13.6% year-on-year.
Expert Outlook: Caution Ahead for Q4
Despite a recent positive trend in the client market, JPR maintains caution about the approaching quarter.
"The client PC market has now had three consecutive quarters of growth," said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of JPR. "We think the PC CPUs' growth was prompted mostly by the end-of-life of Windows 10... We don't expect Q4 to be very strong."
Our Analysis: A Tale of Two Markets
The Q3 2025 data paint a clear picture of two different market dynamics. The client CPU market seems only to be enjoying a temporary upswing stimulated by an external event-the Windows 10 EOL. The 2.2% decline year over year suggests that organic demand for PCs remains weak at the core. This forced upgrade cycle pulls future sales up into the present, thus supporting Dr. Peddie's prediction for the fourth period being less than stellar as this effect will recede.
Before this premise stands the turning fact wherein the server market has shown a scintillating 13.6% year on year growth. This clearly indicates real and sustained demand. Probably because cloud infrastructures, data centers, and AI workloads under constant expansion consume their services continually. While the client market goes through a refresh cycle of short duration, the server market really drives growth in the CPU industry today.
