Microsoft Releases Full-Screen Gaming Experience for Windows 11

Microsoft just released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7051, and it comes with that new Full Screen Experience (FSE) feature to a separate full-screen gaming interface. This feature from Asus Rog ally is finally coming to other devices now.

What is the Full Screen Experience (FSE)

Fse is a mode apt for that console-like user experience, combining Xbox and Windows systems into a minimalist menu that allows users to fast launch games, switch tasks, and even manage system settings without navigating between several windows. When activated, the system will limit automatic background activity and defers all non-urgent processes to achieve the smoothest possible game play and lag-free experience.

How to Enable and Access FSE

The new mode can be turned on by going to Settings > Gaming > Full-Screen Mode > Xbox Adjustment as the primary application. After configuring, a device boots to this interface specifically designed for gaming. Currently, the FSE is a feature on the ASUS ROG Ally and ROG Ally X, and support for the MSI Claw and several other handheld devices is coming soon.

Further Innovations in Build 26220.7051

That addition is major, but the build has several other enhancements and innovations as well:

  • Ask Copilot: An AI assistant feature is integrated into the taskbar itself, so users can use voice, text, or even visual commands to interact with Copilot.
  • Shared Bluetooth Audio: Microsoft is testing a new method where two users can attach their headphones to a single device in parallel using Bluetooth LE Audio.
  • System Fixes: The update resolves several bugs in the start menu and file manager plus improves responsiveness when dealing with network folders and application boots.
