Apple Interface Design Lead Alan Dye Joins Meta Leadership
Apple thinks it has lost another major player to its leadership. The lead interface designer of Apple, Alan Dye, has unexpectedly announced his departure from the Cupertino giant. He is set to join Meta, thus widening the gap in high-profile exits from Apple's design team.
New Hopes at Meta
As per the Bloomberg report, Dye will lead a newly formed design centre that could work on what is termed as a "future studio" for hardware, intelligent interfaces, and AI. This now makes him one of the first few people at Meta to really work on wearables and AR/VR.
Another Turnover in Leadership at Apple
The exit will further disturb the transition in the design department that started with Jony Ive and Evans Hankey. Dye was behind the key interface design of the iPhone X, Apple Watch, VisionOS, and the recent "Liquid Glass" visual overhaul across Apple's platforms.
Dye's exit is interesting in that it has occurred soon after these operating systems have been launched amid some criticism regarding the new visual style. Apple quickly moved to release a few patches for interface adjustments.
Stephen Lemay Takes Charge
Stepping into the role will be 25-year Apple veteran Stephen Lemay, and Tim Cook is on record expressing his confidence during the changeover, referring to Lemay as a "pillar of the interface team."
