The Metal Gear Future Options Konami Mulls Over
Konami has regained its footing in the maelstrom of developing and publishing major AAA titles. The long-term plans for its flagship Metal Gear franchise, however, are not yet clear. The revival of IPs is a commitment of the company though specific plans for what comes immediately after this current wave of projects are not yet finalized.
Short-Term Focus Long-Term Uncertainty
Like any recently released game in Japan's best-selling franchise, Okamura recently spoke with Real Sound regarding the franchise status. He didn't deny that, even when Konami is moving towards developing the brand further, a very much under-discussion consideration at the moment is whether that next step should take the form of another remake or an all-new entry.
Okamura pointed out that the Metal Gear series has represented an entire age of gaming history, from pixel art to a modern cinematic experience. Therefore, there isn't one approach or another to reviving these games; it must be tailored. He noted that development methodologies used for Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater will not necessarily be applied to others in the series; each game will have a custom plan.
Master Collection Vol 2 Status
Further developments are still ongoing regarding the projects that will be worked on before the far future. According to Okamura, in September, work was going on for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2. The details regarding the specific lineup are scant; however, strong demand has been raised from fans of the series to include Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots, which has remained wholly exclusive to PlayStation 3 hardware since its inception.
