Updated Regional Pricing on Steam from Paradox Interactive

Paradox Interactive's announcement regarding new price revisions for its catalog as well as add-ons in different Steam territories. It claimed that the undertaking is part of an action for narrowing price differences in different countries and to minimize the misuse of the regional pricing system.

Specific Regional Modifications

Some price adjustments entail considerable markups in a few currencies, but for others, price cuts are noted. Most noticeable changes include the following

  • Kazakhstan Prices in Kazakhstan will increase most sharply by an estimated 20% for the Kazakhstani tenge.
  • Russia An increase in price by approximately 10% will apply for the Russian ruble.
  • Poland and Uruguay Price changes for these regions will initiate a decrease of about 8%.

Implementation and Community Reaction

The new pricing will take effect between January 12 and January 16. The decision is much contested by players especially in Russia who claim not to understand the logic behind such an increase when the national currency does not strengthen with respect to the dollar.

The move has provoked speculation within the gaming community that regional markets will ultimately bear the cost burden of the publisher's troubled projects, especially the budget problems afflicting the development of Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2.
