NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution Creations via NVIDIA App
DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution is now available from NVIDIA for all GeForce RTX GPU users. The update is distributed via presented it in the form of a 2nd-generation transformer model that is expected to be used in improving image quality across 400+ supported games and applications. Users can fetch this update by opening the app or manually downloading it.
DLSS 4.5 A New Transformer AI Model
This is an update to DLSS Super Resolution, which comes based on a new and much more complex transformer model. It uses five times the compute power of the initial model, trained on a significantly larger dataset, allowing it to gain a better understanding of game engine data for capturing images with better lighting, sharper edges, and greater motion clarity.
How to Activate and Use DLSS 4.5
To upgrade into DLSS 4.5, this will be administered in the introduction of the "DLSS Override" feature of the NVIDIA application. On the Graphics tab, users get to choose a new "Recommended" option under the "DLSS Override - Model Preset." The new models get applied directly with this setting:
- Model M: Optimized for DLSS Super Resolution Performance mode.
- Model L: Optimized for 4K DLSS Super Resolution Ultra Performance mode.
Though these models can operate in conjunction with the Quality, Balanced, and DLAA modes, they provide most significant benefits in the case of Performance and Ultra Performance modes.
Concerns for GeForce RTX 20 and 30 Series GPUs
Neither GeForce RTX 20 nor 30 Series GPUs supports native fp8. The new Model M and Model L would, therefore, inflict a heavier performance hit on these cards. Most likely, users with these GPUs will want to keep using the Model K (from DLSS 4) for a more balanced performance/image quality ratio.
Other Announcements Relating to DLSS and RTX Games
According to NVIDIA, DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation is now active in more than 250 titles. It will be showcased in future RTX games like 007 First Light, Phantom Blade Zero, PRAGMATA, and Resident Evil Requiem.
An improved DLSS Multi Frame Generation, which will have a 6X mode and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, has also been scheduled to be launched this spring.
New Game Updates with DLSS Support
Two more games now adopt DLSS technology in their portfolio.
- LET IT DIE INFERNO: This rogue-lite survival action game has been updated to add support for DLSS Super Resolution.
- StarRupture: This open-world base-building game launched in Early Access with day-one support for both DLSS Super Resolution and DLSS Frame Generation.
So, both titles will have the new DLSS 4.5 overrides available through the NVIDIA app.
