Rockstar launches Cfx marketplace for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 mods
Rockstar Games has introduced the Cfx Marketplace, a digital store where creators can now sell mods for the FiveM (GTA V) and RedM (Red Dead Redemption 2) frameworks. This is an eminent step forward in terms of users' content creation since shortly after Rockstar bought the Cfx.re modding team in August 2023.
What's For Sale on the Marketplace
The store describes itself as a "curated digital storefront" for the selling of maps, scripts, characters, clothing, vehicles, etc. Hundreds of mods are listed for sale, some free and some paid.
Notably, server-side editions of the NaturalVision Graphics Pack (a highly rated graphical overhaul mod) go for a subscription of $12.19 per month.
Mod Pricing Examples
Moderately overpriced mild variation exists in pricing for mods on Cfx Marketplace. Free content exists together with extremely expensive projects. Here are some examples of prices:
- Trucker Simulator Mod: $67.19
- Drug Manufacturing Bundle (Meth, Cocaine, Weed): $131.99
- MRPD/Hospital/Mechanic Map Bundle: $201.29
- Activities Bundle (Bowling, Billiards, etc.): $467.99
Strategic Implications and the Future of Modding
The Cfx Marketplace is a landmark in the evolution of the modder-initiated relationship and AI cooperation once hostile towards its very being previously. This is perceived as groundwork to experiment with something similar in GTA VI.
It is interesting to note that the filters for single-player mods for both GTA V and RDR2 are also available. There are no such mods on this website for the moment, but the filters show there are plans to introduce mod support somewhere down the line.
Official Launch Creators
The launch saw a selected group of well-established creators take the stage, with others expected to be onboarded soon. The launch partners include:
- The Ambitioneers
