Intel Xeon 600 Processors Introduced for Advanced Workstation Systems

Intel has introduced its Xeon 600 range of processors which target advanced client workstation systems. The platform uses the Intel W890 chipset which operates on Intel 3 process technology and Redwood Cove+ architecture. The update delivers significant increases in core counts and memory bandwidth and IO connectivity improvements for data science and engineering and content creation purposes.

The flagship Xeon 698X features up to 86 cores and a 4.8 GHz turbo frequency. The Intel 64 core W3595X provides 61% better multithreaded performance plus 9% better singlecore performance compared to its predecessor. The entire product line now achieves better power consumption efficiency.

The Xeon 600 series introduces robust IO and memory capabilities to handle demanding AI and simulation workloads

  • PCIe Connectivity The system supports 128 CPU PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes which enable multiple GPU setups and fast storage connections.
  • Memory Support The platform supports 8channel DDR5 RDIMM at 6400 MT/s while also supporting MRDIMM memory which reaches 8,000 MT/s maximum speed.
  • AI Acceleration Intel AMX now supports the FP16 datatype which results in 17% faster AI and machine learning performance.
  • Networking The system includes builtin support for WiFi 6E and it has separate support for WiFi 7.
  • Security The system includes Intel vPro technologies which provide multiple memory encryption keys and firmware version control.

Intel has expanded processor tuning capabilities which now include undervolt protection and percore performance limit reporting. Intel and ASUS set new world record benchmarks with their combination of Xeon 698X and ASUS Pro WS W890E SAGE SE motherboard in Geekbench (MultiCore) and YCruncher testing.

Intel Xeon 600 processors will become available through OEM partners and system integrators beginning in late March 2026. The following models will be available as boxed processors for individual retail

  • Xeon 696X 64 Cores
  • Xeon 678X 48 Cores
  • Xeon 676X 32 Cores
  • Xeon 658X 24 Cores
  • Xeon 654 18 Cores
