IO Interactive developed the faster stealth system for its James Bond video game
IO Interactive shows how it developed the faster stealth system for its James Bond video game. The studio from IO Interactive which creates the Hitman series now develops its upcoming 007 First Light title by creating their own new stealth system. The development team will create a new James Bond game which combines elements from both Agent 47 and Uncharted 4 A Thief's End.
In a recent interview, game director Andreas Krogh explained the fundamental difference between the studio's previous work and the new Bond experience. The Hitman series requires players to treat stealth as a "design puzzle" because they must first observe NPC behavior patterns before they can begin their stealth operations.
The team for 007 First Light has established "constant forward motion" as their primary development goal. The game will give players immediate options to move forward while they can still see everything in their environment for both combat and stealth situations.
This design change aims to reduce the time players spend deciding between their available options. The game needs to match the Bond franchise's traditional style which includes chases and explosive action sequences. The main changes for the game include:
- Reduced Wait Times: Less emphasis on waiting for perfect windows compared to Hitman.
- Immediate Action: Tactical options that can be utilized as soon as an objective is reached.
- Maintained Momentum: The game needs to maintain a constant play flow throughout both quiet and loud parts.
The new direction combines IO Interactive's tactical elements with 007 storytelling elements which require faster pacing. The studio handles development of this project to create a game which combines stealth gameplay with elements from high stakes action sequences.
