Steam Users Review Performance Through Performance Evaluation System
Valve has added a new feature which lets Steam users show their hardware details when they write game reviews. The optional setting tests performance problems to help users see if issues come from their hardware or from game defects.
Steam users needed to write their system specifications by hand into the text field of their review. The new update provides a dedicated space for this data. By seeing the reviewers GPU and CPU, readers can better gauge whether a games smooth performance or stuttering is relevant to their own rig. This feature proves valuable for contemporary AAA games which demand high minimum hardware specifications.
The system provides users with transparency which enables them to recognize hardware challenges and problems related to game performance optimization.
Users gain the ability to select their preference between showing or hiding their component information.
Steam users will face uncertainty about data collection because the platform lacks clarity on its automatic Hardware Survey data retrieval or the requirement for users to enter data manually.
The beta also includes an optin feature for collecting anonymized framerate data. Valve uses this data to enhance both game compatibility and overall performance of the Steam platform. The data shows the users hardware details but it remains unlinked to any specific Steam user account. The current data collection efforts focus on devices which operate with SteamOS.
Valve is making changes to its Steam Deck Verified evaluation process. The client now asks users to explain their disagreement with a games Verified status. Users can choose to submit a reason for their disagreement with the new process but it helps Valve create better Steam Deck compatibility assessments and confirms the testing results of Steam Deck devices.
These features are currently limited to participants in the Steam Client Beta. To join
- Navigate to Settings in the Steam Client.
- Select the Interface tab.
- Select Steam Beta Update from the Client Beta Participation menu.
To complete the update process users must restart their Steam client. The Steam Deck system offers these updates through the Preview/Beta channel which became active on February 12. The stable client will receive general availability details at a later time.
