Huawei Ascend 950PR AI Chip Secures Orders From Major Tech Firms Including ByteDance and Alibaba to Reach Semiconductor Independence Production Targets
ByteDance and Alibaba are among the prominent technology companies in China preparing to purchase the latest artificial intelligence processor from Huawei. The 950PR model has completed its first customer tests according to sources who know about the evaluation process. This achievement marks an important turning point for the Shenzhen company because it wants to gain market share from foreign companies that currently control the industry.
The new hardware addresses previous adoption barriers by offering enhanced compatibility with the widely used CUDA software ecosystem created by Nvidia. Developers can now migrate existing models with greater ease compared to previous iterations such as the 910C chip.
The 950PR achieved better performance in inference workloads which involve executing trained models to process specific queries and tasks despite only achieving a small boost in raw computational power. This specialization aligns with the current 2026 trend in the Chinese tech sector toward real world deployment and the rapid adoption of the OpenClaw agent.
Huawei plans to deliver roughly 750000 units of the 950PR throughout this entire fiscal period. Mass production is scheduled to commence next month following the distribution of samples earlier this year. The company will begin full scale shipments in the second half of 2026 to match its increasing manufacturing capacity.
The pricing structure includes the following options
- A standard version using traditional DDR memory for approximately 50,000 yuan
- A premium model equipped with faster HBM memory will retail for about 70,000 yuan
The timing of this product launch coincides with ongoing challenges for international competitors in the region. The US government has banned the export of advanced artificial intelligence chips to China due to fears they might be used for military purposes. The H200 processor was previously discussed for sale under specific conditions but its actual entry into the local market remains uncertain.
Huawei first announced its plan to introduce these advanced computing systems last September as part of its strategy to achieve domestic semiconductor independence and build a sustainable high performance computing business.
