Intel Announces Dr Craig H Barratt as New Board Chair

Intel has announced that Dr Craig H Barratt will be the new independent chair of the board starting after the Annual Stockholders Meeting on May 13 2026 He s taking over from Frank D Yeary who is retiring after being a director since 2009 and chair since 2023

Frank Yeary s departure wraps up an important chapter for Intel As chair he played a big part in bringing in Lip Bu Tan as CEO and guiding a major company redo Yeary worked to get Intels finances back on track and bring back a focus on engineering He also supported progress on Intels process roadmap especially the 18A and 14A nodes

Yeary said that now that the company is more stable and has a clear direction with the current management it s a good time for a new independent chair to take over

Dr Craig Barratt who joined Intels board in November 2025 has worked in the semiconductor business for over 30 years He has a strong background in engineering and running big tech companies Here are a few key points

  • Atheros Communications He was CEO leading the company through its IPO and later when it was acquired by Qualcomm
  • Barefoot Networks He was CEO until Intel acquired the company
  • Intel Experience He was a senior vice president for Intels networking photonics and ethernet businesses
  • Current Boards He s currently on the boards of Astera Labs and Intuitive Surgical

Bringing in Dr Barratt goes along with Intels plan to bring in board members with lots of tech skills and experience CEO Lip Bu Tan said that Barratts experience will be key as Intel focuses on product leadership and growing its foundry services

The board will keep focusing on doing its R&D and manufacturing plans in the United States Dr Barratt has said he wants to keep things moving forward making sure Intel stays competitive in the fast changing semiconductor market Since 2024 Intel has added four new independent directors to make sure the board has the skills needed for the companys longterm plans
