Framework Modular Wireless Touchpad Keyboard Unveiled for Simulation Rigs Featuring Custom 3D Printed Mounts and late 2026 Release Date

The company introduced its wireless touchpad keyboard following the Framework 13 Pro laptop launch which expanded its product range. The input device is engineered primarily for living room computing and simulation rig environments. The project originated during internal testing phases for the Framework Desktop PC initiative where the engineering team identified a lack of high quality integrated keyboard and trackpad solutions currently available to consumers.

The hardware architecture utilizes the same underlying components found in the recent Framework 12 series laptops. The keyboard design features chiclet style keys which have a low profile and provide users with 1.5 mm key travel distance. The keyboard provides a complete Windows Precision Touchpad experience but lacks the advanced haptic feedback systems which the newer Framework 13 Pro series includes. The integration enables users to use multi finger gestures on both Windows and Linux operating systems which are essential for navigating media centers.

A notable aesthetic choice involves the inclusion of a translucent rear chassis cover. The design decision shows the internal structure of the device through its transparent display of the circuit design and construction quality. Framework provides official CAD files which users can use to create their own custom board mounting solutions. Power users now have the ability to 3D print custom mounts which will secure the board into their specialized simulation hardware.

The internal Control Board serves as the system core because it contains a Nordic nRF54 radio interface. The module uses a dedicated USB Type A dongle or standard Bluetooth to manage wireless connectivity protocol. The board enables users to establish a wired connection through USB Type C. Framework intends to offer this Control Board as a standalone item via its Marketplace platform. The radio interface can be combined with proprietary input frames and custom chassis designs by enthusiasts.

The company has not yet established a specific date for the peripheral to reach retail stores. The company has stated that the product is expected to reach the consumer market later in 2026. The release represents the company's effort to expand its business operations beyond laptop production into the market for modular PC accessories.
