Huawei Launches HarmonyOS MateBook 14 with OLED Display and Kirin X90 to Challenge the Global Ultrabook Market
Huawei has expanded its hardware portfolio in China with the launch of the MateBook 14 HarmonyOS edition. The new device arrives with a chassis design that measures 14.5 millimeters at its thinnest point and carries a weight of approximately 2.86 pounds. The company uses this specific form factor to market the laptop as direct competition against MacBook Air.
The device's visual system uses a 14.2 inch OLED display that has a resolution of 2880 by 1920 pixels. The screen has a 120 hertz refresh rate and 500 nits peak brightness while displaying more than its pixel density. Huawei has included support for its M Pen 3 stylus which incorporates an Air Mouse mode designed to streamline navigation through browser tabs and workspace management. The company focuses on attracting digital content creators who value direct display interaction.
The Kirin X90 processor controls internal performance operations. Huawei has not disclosed the specific architecture details of its chip design but the company asserts the silicon design enhances performance for both artificial intelligence and regular daily tasks. The laptop uses its dual fan system to control thermal output during intensive operations while minimizing sound disturbances.
The company maintains its focus on establishing connections even with its slim design. The device includes a pair of USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports alongside an HDMI interface, a 3.5 millimeter audio jack, and a single USB Type C port. The system operates on HarmonyOS which is Huawei's proprietary software environment that currently supports over 17000 applications.
The new product release showcases its energy management capabilities with a 70 watt hour battery that supports 21 hours of video playback. The laptop supports multiple charging methods which include reverse charging at 66 watts and three different power delivery protocols, namely SCP and UFCS and PD. Mobile users who need quick power charging while they are outside their work area will benefit from these capabilities.
The product is currently available in two distinct configurations for the Chinese market. The entry level model provides 24 gigabytes of memory and 512 gigabytes of storage for 6599 CNY, approximately 999 dollars. The higher end variant provides 32 gigabytes of RAM and 1 terabyte of storage for 8599 CNY, which equals about 1299 dollars. Huawei has not yet confirmed whether this HarmonyOS powered hardware will debut in markets outside of China.
