LG Rollable Smartphone Teardown Reveals Innovative Engineering and Motorized Display Mechanics

LG Rollable Smartphone Engineering Revealed Through Unique Hardware Teardown Operation Detailing Motorized Display Mechanics And Internal Architecture Success

The engineering details for LG's scrapped rollable smartphone project were uncovered during a unique teardown operation. The mobile industry recently caught a rare glimpse into a revolutionary era of hardware that never reached consumers. In a detailed video shared by noted technology reviewer Zach Nelson the cancelled LG Rollable smartphone was finally put through a comprehensive hardware analysis. This specific prototype represents one of the final projects developed before LG officially ceased its smartphone operations in the spring of 2021. The channel featured this special unit which required special treatment because it needed to be rebuilt without the usual damage that occurs during most teardown processes.

The device contains a flexible display which can change from its 5.5 inch display size to a 7.5 inch tablet size. Users can extend the display by swiping their finger between two designated areas which activate a motorized operation. The screen content immediately adapts to new dimensions when the panel extends from its hidden position inside the chassis. LG engineers incorporated a special bristle strip which cleans the flexible screen from dust and debris through its mechanism operation. The rolling movement underwent testing for 200000 cycles to verify its capability to maintain structural integrity throughout extended operation.

The internal architecture showed two distinct motors which power the display expansion together with spring loaded guides which maintain the display surface at a steady state across the entire frame. The screen protects itself against scratches through its protective film layer yet the engineers received great recognition for their intelligent design work. Nelson believes that using the innovative rolling method provides multiple advantages compared to traditional hinge systems which most present day foldable phones use. The hardware display provides a technical demonstrationof how the LG mobile engineering team completed their last work before leaving the industry.
