Samsung Onyx Cinema LED 14 Meter Display System Debuts for Premium Large Format Theater Market

Samsung Onyx Cinema LED 14 Meter Display System Launches for Premium Large Format Theaters to Replace Traditional Projection Technology

Samsung has increased its Cinema LED presence through the introduction of its 14 meter modular Onyx display system. The industry now widely adopts large scale LED walls which replace conventional projection systems. At CinemaCon 2026, Samsung Electronics utilized the Las Vegas industry gathering to debut the latest addition to its Onyx cinema lineup: a 14 meter standard sized LED display. The new hardware configuration targets the premium large format (PLF) theater market by providing exhibitors expanded capabilities for image performance and screen size development.

The display engineers need to achieve an appropriate ratio between display dimensions and visual resolution. The new Onyx model utilizes a 3.3mm pixel pitch which provides optimal display performance when used with the 14 meter frame since it maintains visual consistency from the front rows to the back of the auditorium. The hardware maintains all performance requirements established by the series through its 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate capabilities. The Samsung designed architecture enables modular expansion from its 14 meter base to create floor to ceiling visual displays that reach 20 meters in width while removing fixed screen size limitations.

The new display system demonstrates LED technology superiority through its testing results which compare LED and traditional projection systems. The Onyx platform achieves a peak brightness of 300 nits which enables it to produce six times more light than standard theater lighting. The HDR system together with the infinite contrast ratio creates deep true blacks which enable high color volume under all lighting conditions. The executive vice president of Samsung Visual Display Business Hyoung Jae Kim stated that this technological advancement will transform the auditorium into a special space that resembles nothing found in home theater systems.

The Onyx LED screen enables theaters to use their physical space beyond traditional film exhibition which traditional film exhibition uses. The display produces a bright high contrast image which operators use to program alternative content from their venues. The screens have transformed cinema rooms into dynamic multi purpose event spaces which now host high stakes gaming tournaments live concert broadcasts and corporate presentations.

The industry has responded to these capabilities because premium exhibitors are currently adopting them. Trilith Cinemas in Georgia which operates as a primary production center for the industry became the inaugural U.S. site to install the advanced Onyx system across five auditoriums last year. The Georgia Theatre Company president Bo Chambliss reported that the screen delivers reliable performance which meets the requirements of regional creative professionals. The GTC and Pathé exhibitors use Onyx technology to maintain constant bright sharp visual quality which establishes a new technical standard for theatrical presentations in response to evolving media patterns.
