Xiaomi Increases Smartphone Prices in 2026 as Memory Chip Costs Quadruple Driven by Artificial Intelligence Demand and Global Semiconductor Supply Chain Disruption Affecting DRAM and NAND Markets
Xiaomi has to raise its smartphone prices for 2026 because memory expenses have increased. The global consumer electronics market experiences a major change in pricing because Xiaomi increases the prices of multiple smartphone models. The company decided to increase its prices because memory chip costs have risen during the first half of 2026 which created supply chain problems. The company confirmed that three of its current models will see a price increase of approximately 200 yuan which is roughly 29 US dollars starting this coming Saturday. The major domestic brands which include Oppo, Oneplus and Honor established this price adjustment trend when they changed their retail prices in March to match manufacturing cost increases.
The exceptional demand for advanced memory which artificial intelligence systems and huge data centers require creates the primary reason prices fluctuate. Xiaomi president Lu Weibing announced on Weibo that specific memory configurations now cost almost four times their previous year price. He explained that manufacturers must raise product prices because current pricing conditions go beyond what the industry expected. Geopolitical tensions have caused higher prices for essential business resources because ongoing conflicts disrupt material and chemical supply chains and metal markets and international shipping routes.
The latest reports indicate that conventional dynamic random access memory contract prices will increase by 63 percent during this current quarter. NAND flash memory prices are expected to rise by 75 percent which makes this the most significant price increase in the forecasted period. Semiconductor giants currently give their production capacity for enterprise level AI hardware priority because those products generate better profit margins than regular consumer electronics parts.
The current semiconductor shortage affects all markets beyond the smartphone industry. The market faces growing supply limits and increasing expenses which both personal computer manufacturers and portable device makers must deal with. The semiconductor industry has suffered price hikes for power devices and analogue chips because AI application demand has grown faster than chipmakers can produce their products. The new price points which industry experts predict will become standard in mid 2026 will happen because manufacturers need to deliver traditional hardware together with artificial intelligence growth.
