Modern Warfare 4 Announces Realistic Military Narrative on the Korean Peninsula with Nintendo Switch 2 Native Support and Tactical Multiplayer Systems Replacing Recent Arcade Gameplay
Activision has revealed the first image of Modern Warfare 4 indicating a major platform change and a more realistic military simulation. Created by Infinity ward, the first person shooter will be released next fall of Play Station 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. This will be the first for the franchise, for in 13 years a Call of duty will be released natively on a Nintendo console, the previous was Ghosts which was released on the Wii U. It will also be the first game where the franchise has completely avoided the older generation of console products such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The Nintendo port of the title is currently being developed by Digital Legends, a Barcelona based development studio acquired by Activision. Correspondent Johan Mackegrd Hansson authenticated the native platform target. The game was designed to take advantage of current generation hardware, and both development team want to benefit from modern rendering techniques and harness the increased visual fidelity and environmental physics.
The single player campaign (played offline) takes place amid a rapid intensification on the Korean Peninsula. The narrative details the story of a young team of South Korean soldiers defending their country from a larger invasion by North Korea under a new regime. Simultaneous with this action, Captain Price is executing an off book operation which eventually intersects with the main theater of the war. The campaign will also go off the Peninsula, putting the player in the trenches of Korea, urban fighting in New York and a high speed chase through Paris.
Multiplayer combat returns to a more deliberate, tactical pace in Modern Warfare 4, leaving the high speed high mobility gameplay of most of the recent entries behind. Infinity Ward has announced the initiative has made the decision not to include the Omnimovement system from Black Ops 6 so that the player experience can take on a more calculated dynamic. However, the game has not removed movement capabilities from its multiplayer combat. Like the previous game, slide canceling remains possible, and the scenario sliding into aim down sight position is availab. Tactical Sprint has returned, featuring a similarly realistic stamina consumption system where vitality bar reduction limits a player's running speed.
Additionally, several new mobility features have been added to the environmental navigation. Players now have the ability to fall backward into a prone position and fire while doing so. The climbing system has been entirely reworked to include ledge hanging, pole climbing and ladder jumping. In addition to the core multiplayer suite, the highly tactical DMZ mode will also be included as a core feature of the package. According to Activision, they intend to present the gameplay loop of DMZ in a detailed manner at the summer showcase.
