Former Valve Writer Chet Faliszek Rejects Role in Potential Half Life 3

Half Life 3 Speculation Grows Following Chet Faliszek Comments on the Immense Burden of Continuity and Complex Narrative Challenges Facing Valve

It’s 2026, rumors and speculation around the mythical Half Life 3 are in overdrive after information about the Source 2 engine was released and a man who was instrumental in the writing of the original title expressed his lack of desire to work on the project again. Chet Faliszek a lead writer on Half Life 2 rebutted speculation suggesting that a conclusion to the story would be relatively simple and instead highlighted the immense burden of continuity any writer would have to deal with in order to please a loyal fan base.

In the final game’s second episode Faliszek pinpointed a narrative problem, explaining that the majority of players most likely aren't aware of why the final rocket was launched. He reminisced over a discussion that he had approximately fifteen years ago in Valve during which the staff were attempting to try and lay out a clear explanation for the narrative:

they stated that there were possibilities that Gordon Freeman was simply some sort of inter dimensional hitman that took orders from the G Man which opens up possibilities for all sorts of narrative inconsistency that a fan base of this size will have noticed and pick apart

Faliszek then confessed he himself wouldn't know where to start even with the use of a gravity gun to help him piece together his own work. The writer admitted that if he can barely keep track of his own life let alone the complicated adventures of Gordon Freeman he surely can't be the one to finish it off. His comments, while potentially dispelling hopes for many fans, put into perspective how difficult it will be for Valve and its current team of developers to create a cohesive narrative to a story that was left incomplete almost two decades ago.
