Framework Price Update for DDR5 Memory and SSD Storage Units and Implementation of Multi Vendor Sourcing Plans

The lastest monthly price update has been release from the hardware manufacturer Framework. They acknowledge that there are supply pressures for silicon storage and memory market, and price adjustment has to be made at retail immediately. Despite their effort of taking over market price variation through its current warehouse stock, such stock is now run dry and consumer prices have to follow the high current market wholesale price of the new modules.

Market has been quite stable in DDR5 memory market. However local stock movement influences price directly when the supply of 8GB DDR5 is considered. Framework exhausted the acquired 8GB stock which was bought in a lower price in the past and have to adjust 8GB price up at the retail level immediately in order to justify the new purchased module price at the wholesale level. It is clarified by the manufacturer that this price adjustment is based solely on the purchase cost of the new module and all other capacity's prices have been kept unchanged at this cycle of purchase.

The trajectory is much more complicated on solid state drive price. Framework has managed to sell its SSD at below market price by utilizing old part in years of 2025, it is exhausted now. As Framework started to acquire new parts at a higher purchase price compared with last acquired component at a rate of more than 2 or 3 times, current market prices are actually the weighed average cost between new and old parts, and it is predicted to be adjusted to market new cost next month when the legacy part is gone completely. Pre orders do not affected by this adjustment and original locked prices will be maintained unless customer modifies storage/memory.

Framework is implementing the multi vendor strategy in component sourcing for assembled system due to supply bottleneck of storages. Historically, only Western Digital and SanDisk components are used by the factory for assembled system, by now, ADATA and Phison components have also been implemented for storage component by the engineers. Every new acquired storage component undergoes performance verification and system integration check in order to assure performance, efficiency and stability of the system.
