MSI Launches MPG Ai1600TS PCIE5 Platinum Power Supply Featuring 1600 Watts and Dual 12V 2x6 Connectors for Next Gen High Performance Systems
The MPG Ai1600TS PCIE5 power supply was launched by MSI on the Chinese market specifically to cope with modern high performance systems and the extremely high power requirements they bring. This is a 1600 watt 80 PLUS Platinum rated power supply with two unique 12V 2x6 ports. This dual port setup allows it to support next gen graphics cards that require high current throughput but will also stay within thermal safety boundaries.
The power supply unit is designed with specialized GPU Safeguard plus technology that will monitor the graphics card electrical status and will notify the user about any power delivery problems, which in turn aims to prevent overheating of power connectors. A separate Fan Safeguard system will keep track of the status of the 135mm cooling fan. The power supply also contains a full compliment of protection standards:
- OVP and UVP
- OPP and OC
- SCP and Active PFC standards
Focusing on a server grade approach MSI utilized 105° C rated Japanese capacitors and Silicon Carbide MOSFETs which are 10 percent less wasteful with heat in comparison to standard parts. This power management system is completely digital, run by a single microcontroller and is capable of regulating voltage within 1600 watts.
The unit supports PCIe 5.1 standard and is said to be capable of 240 percent peak system wide load and 300 percent peak graphics card load. MSI also used a fully modular design that uses embossed braided cables. They included a special 12V 1x6 cable that is colored in two tones so you will instantly be able to tell if the cable has been plugged in properly.
Total power is enough for both professional workstations and even enthusiast PC builds that might run multiple high power GPUs at once or overclocked processors significantly. The physical layout prioritizes thermal capacity and precision. The MPG Ai1600TS PCIE5 has a $441 MSRP.
