Samsung Broadens Global Display Market Dominance With Odyssey 6K OLED Gaming Monitors and High Resolution ViewFinity S8 Professional Workstations
Samsung broadened its global display presence as the latest Odyssey gaming monitors and ViewFinity S8 professional series rolled out, pushing boundaries to new highs in both market positions and technology integration. The company now leads the global OLED gaming monitor segment for the 3rd consecutive year with a 26% market share, coupled with an 18.9% share in the broader gaming display revenue, according to research data from International Data Corporation. Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business Hun Lee declared "this refreshed lineup aims to provide access to 4K display and fast refresh rate capabilities to competitive gamers and creative professionals alike."
The Odyssey G8 Series Introduces 6K Gaming
The premium tier of the announcement revolves around the new Odyssey G8 family, with three distinct models under its belt. The headliner model is the 32 inch Odyssey G80HS, hailed as the world's first 6K gaming monitor, delivering its native 6K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate for stunning detail. However, to keep pace with high performance gaming, this monitor offers a Dual Mode that allows users to change its resolution to 3K at a staggeringly fast 330Hz refresh rate.
Joining this new behemoth is the 27 inch Odyssey G80HF for players who desire smaller screen sizes. This variant boasts similar flexibility and support for native 5K resolution with a 180Hz refresh rate, with the same Dual Mode capability that allows the display to run at 360Hz refresh rate at QHD resolution. The third device under the G8 umbrella is the Odyssey OLED G8 G80SH, which is available in both 27 inch and 32 inch versions. These monitors employ the 4K QD OLED display, with a 240Hz refresh rate and utilizing Penta Tandem technology for enhanced panel brightness and durability, with the 32 inch variant carrying VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification. All G8 monitors are equipped with DisplayPort 2.1, AMD FreeSync Premium, NVIDIA G Sync Compatible, and HDR10 Plus GAMING support.
Expanding OLED Access with the Odyssey G7
Expanding access to self emitting displays, the 32 inch Odyssey OLED G7 G73SH was released with the goal of providing a high end OLED experience to a wider audience at an attractive price point. This model pushes out 4K resolution at 165Hz but can drop its Dual Mode capability for an eye popping 330Hz refresh rate in FHD resolution, ideal for fast paced competitive games with a 0.03ms response time to minimize motion blur.
ViewFinity S8 Monitors for Professional Workstations
Complementing its gaming lineup, Samsung also launched its latest ViewFinity S8 series, designed for professional creative work. The large 40 inch curved ViewFinity S85TH features a WUHD screen with 144Hz refresh rate, aimed at professionals who deal with large timelines and a multitude of data. Connectivity to this display comes by way of Thunderbolt 5 for data speeds of up to 80Gbps, along with a charging speed of 140W. Rounding out the lineup is the 27 inch flat 5K ViewFinity S80HF, perfect for design professionals, which is connected through USB C and features a comfortable, ergonomic stand designed for long hours of use.
