Samsung SSD Prices Surge Over 300 Percent in Japan Amid Shortages While Western Digital Defies Market Trends With Massive Discounts on High Capacity Drives
Samsung SSDs are seeing insane price increases on the Japanese market at retail with some seeing a cumulative 300% increase. The top end, heatsink less 9100 PRO 8TB is sitting pretty at 547,980 Yen across multiple storefronts. The heatsink version of the 9100 PRO 4TB saw a 31.5% rise to 279,980 Yen with the 2TB model see rise of 30.6% to 140,980 Yen. We see a extreme shortage in extreme capacity drives on the Japanese retail market.
Older Samsung drives see cumulative inflation since the start of the year. The heatsink equipped 990 PRO 4TB jumped 37.0% up to 236,980 Yen with the 2TB model raising 29.4% to 131,980 Yen. The price increase over early pricing from the start of the year comes to an insane cumulative total of over 319%. A non heatsink model 870 EVO 4TB SATA drive saw a shocking 384.7% price increase to 314,980 Yen while the 990 EVO Plus 4TB saw price rise of its own to 206,980 Yen.
Other Japanese brands like Kioxia are also having issues as well, with suddenly scarce inventory causing prices to soar. Kioxia EXCERIA PRO G2 2TB drives saw price increase of 59.4% with it jumping up to 93,880 Yen with the EXCERIA G3 2TB drive rising 57.2% to 68,970 Yen. Crucial drives saw severe increases as well, with the T500 heatsink equipped 4TB jumping 78.6% to 159,800 Yen, and the P310 4TB rise to 87,800 Yen (20.6%).
Western Digital has brought massive discounts to the Japanese market unlike many other brands. The PCIe 5.0 WD Black SN8100 8TB has already begun to fall below its retail prices dropping to 398,000 Yen. The 4TB capacity of that drive also dropped significantly by 24.7% to 157,980 Yen. The WD Black SN850X 8TB has also been heavily discounted as well. The price for the 8TB model is 214,980 Yen which is a 45.8% discount however the prices are already rebounding due to stock issues above 417,000 Yen with the heatsink less variant. The WD Black SN7100 4TB and WD Blue SN5100 4TB saw steep drops respectively to 79,800 Yen and 97,980 Yen respectively.
