Optical engineering and hardware design. The lens features a highly complex optical design consisting of sixteen individual lenses arranged in thirteen groups that is used to try and combat distortion. According to the official MTF charts from the manufacturer the lens exhibits strong resolution at the center when used at its widest aperture however the resolution does taper off as the corner of the frame is reached. The tapering of resolution is to be expected on a compact wide aperture zoom lens.

The overall physical design is minimal in its length, weighing 432 grams and being 9.2 cm long. The internal zoom design ensures that the physical length of the optic remains consistent at any given focal length. It is possible to mount common filter accessories such as polarizing or ND filters via the front 67mm filter thread.

Build quality and camera system. The outside of the barrel has an IP53 rating making it water and dust resistant protecting the lens optics and mechanics. It utilizes internal motors that can enable full auto focusing through a switch on the side of the barrel which can allow it to be manually controlled with ease. When using the lens to shoot subject at minimum focus distance of 0.3m the maximum magnification ratio possible is 0.21. The camera mount allows for firmware upgrades via a built in USB C port, it is only currently manufactured for Sony E mount camera systems.
