Capcom Devil May Cry 5 Lifetime Sales Hit 12.9 Million Copies After Netflix Anime Success and Switch 2 Launch Announcement
Capcom has revealed remarkable long term commercial endurance for its flagship action title Devil May Cry 5. According to the latest financial performance data published by the Japanese publisher, the game has now accumulated 12,900,000 lifetime sales globally. This milestone is particularly unusual for a single player action game that originally launched 8 years ago, demonstrating a late stage sales revival that has surprised industry analysts.
According to the report’s data, this is absolutely phenomenal when contrasted to the 2,700,000 sales generated during the 2025 fiscal year alone. For comparison, Devil May Cry 5 garnered 2,100,000 sales upon launch, then experienced a steep drop in lifetime sales during the first few years after its release. This is a sudden upwards trend for an older game in the cycle. It’s also worth noting that Devil May Cry 5 didn’t hit 10,000,000 million copies sold until well into 2022.
Sources indicate this market interest stems largely from the official Netflix Devil May Cry adaptation that landed last spring. In light of the anime’s popularity, many of the millions that binged the show are picking up the 2019 Devil May Cry 5 as the primary introduction to the Gothic action franchise, resulting in a massive bump for the critically acclaimed title.
What about the next Devil May Cry Capcom could also use this as a spring board for the next Devil May Cry, as there’s no indication of when Devil May Cry 6 may be in development, as the core dev team always seem to be working on other major franchise. The news comes as Capcom has announced it will release the Devil May Cry 5 Devil Hunters Edition, and the title will be a launch title on the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. At the rate, it could push total lifetime sales well over 13 million.
