Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 With Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion and New Character Content for All Platforms
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment have officially revealed that Elden Ring will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. This package is called the Tarnished Edition and it will be released in August, and it marks the first time the fantasy epic game will ever be available to play on any Nintendo hardware. It looks like the port will make the experience of exploring its massive, seamless open world available on the go.
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have stated in their official joint announcement that the package includes the base game, as well as its popular Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. This allows for all the lore of the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow to be presented in a single package. The original game garnered more than 400 Game of the Year nominations and more than 30,000,000 units sold globally, so the shift to the hardware could really be something special.
However, the Tarnished Edition isn't simply a direct port of the original Elden Ring. The game comes with a set of brand new additions that are sure to excite returning players and draw in newcomers. Two completely new starting classes have been added, giving you new builds to choose when you create your character. In addition to the new classes, new sets of character armor and the ability to customize your spectral steed, Torrent, will be included.
The physical and digital editions may be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, but the new content will be available for all players to buy. The new features listed above – including starting classes, spectral steed customization, and the new sets of character armor – will be available as a separate purchase for other platforms as well. So whether you play Elden Ring on your PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or PC via Steam, you can enjoy the same additional features.
The original experience is most famously remembered for its lore rich, expansive open world, and it truly became a phenomenon after developer FromSoftware collaborated with author George R.R. Martin. Martin is well known for his epic fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, while FromSoftware is known as the developer behind the DARK SOULS series of games. The combination resulted in a massive world full of giant bosses and unique locations. The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, available in the Elden Ring bundle for the Switch, will see players follow the path of Miquella and take on many tough enemies and explore the darkest dungeons, using brand new weapons and defenses against the hordes of enemies.
