Gothic Remake Sales Reach 500,000 Copies Following Success on PC PS5 and Xbox Series Platforms as Alkimia Interactive Remains Faithful to Original Design Roots
It has been announced by Alkimia Interactive that Gothic Remake has sold 500,000 copies worldwide within it’s first 7 days on the market. This statement has been met with praise from the development studio, stating that it simply would not have been possible without the consistent passion from the Gothic fanbase. This is a good starting number for a game that endured a highly convoluted development period lasting years.
This title was released worldwide on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series as a re imagining that preserves and update the visuals of the fantasy world whilst keeping the gameplay from the original. Reviews so far have suggested that the development team at Alkimia Interactive felt inclined to follow not only the amazing design from the original, but also its frustrating mechanics. This means that while the game is incredibly appealing to a dedicated fan base, a mainstream audience will likely find the game alien.
While the above could suggest a somewhat niche title that would only appeal to the original player base, the fact that the game has sold 500,000 copies clearly shows there is a significant market for older, computer based RPG's. Successful re imaginations, not based on any trends of mainstream AAA blockbuster design, are clearly viable without compromising their old roots, and it will be interesting to see how Alkimia Interactive continue to develop the game with this information in mind and keep the original fanbase engaged whilst also attracting new potential players.
