Hideo Kojima Reveals OD Horror Game Details Including Specialized System For Scared Players and Xbox Production Updates

Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima has revealed some early information about his next horror game OD. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kojima announced the game will feature a specialized internal system, designed explicitly for use by players too scared to continue, that will make an all too daunting single player experience manageable for more gamers.

In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kojima said he was trying to 'go a step beyond fear', beyond what previous interactiongames have spended. Knowing that extreme fear could make the playerswon't play a game he design a mechanism to 'keep players enganeged, but not at the expense of the gameart'.

I wanted to go beyond the limit of the scariness that other games had reached. It is a single player game, and I wanted to make it as scary as possible. But for those that might stop playing when it gets too scary, I have thought of a system that will allow them to keep going. I can not say much more, because it will give too much of a hint on the system, and I could get in trouble for saying too much

Kojima Productions is currently developing the project, under the publishing of Xbox Game Studios, directly with filmmaker Jordan Peele and starring the following cast (first announced) Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, etc as well as the already departed actor Udo Kier (who died aged 81 before formal production could start). However, Kojima Productions had already done an ultra detailed digital capture of the actor back when he was alive. The studio would not comment publicly whether Kier would be recast or if they would use his digital likeness posthumously, but Kojima Productions did confirm that production with the rest of the cast was proceeding.

The idea for OD was conceived during the production of the first Death Stranding. As explained by the designer, several publishers were reluctant to even take meetings on the game, decrying it "too weird" to sell, before former Xbox boss Phil Spencer approved the title.

After Spencer will leave the following his job, the current Xbox boss, Asha Sharma has said that this is what for Microsoft. According to her in the current entertainment weekly that we cannot sit on new paradigms to the build a wide net framework platform that supports individual and risky, as the od the platform should be open to the non conforming...

The next group of creative talent it's imperative to keep the platform open to the non conforming

This executive support is encouraging in that it indicates that OD is being shielded from the wider shake ups taking place in the Xbox division. It's mentioned in reports on IGN that Microsoft are preparing to sweep through the internal divisions, cutting projects and staff in the process. Kojima's high profile project seems to have survived this harsh reality though.

The spiritual origins of OD come from P T, the playable teaser published in 2014 that was meant for the bygone Silent Hills project. After Kojima left Konami in 2015, P T was taken down from all digital distribution platforms in the world, with the promise of a lost greatness in the realm of horror. OD seems to be Kojima resuming from that, with the help of high end cloud technology and cinematic collaborations unlocking the aspirations of his horror past.
