Huawei Nova 16 Ultra Features High Capacity Battery Engineering Combined With Multi Spectral Camera Hardware And Premium Design Options At Competitive Price Points
Huawei is expanding its smartphone options further with the introduction of the Nova 16 Ultra, an affordable but feature rich phone that challenges the established definitions of flagship. According to an official release by Huawei itself, the phone is defined by a combination of large capacity battery engineering and outstanding photography capabilities. While just 7.1 millimeters thin and tipping the scales at 220 grams, the phone still manages a premium IP69 rating for resistance against ingress from both dust and high pressure water jets.
The phone comes with a 6.84 inch LTPO OLED display made by scratch resistant Kunlun Glass, and while its resolution is not necessarily groundbreaking at 2856 by 1320 pixels, its 120Hz refresh rate is adaptable while its peak brightness of 6000 nits is impressive, particularly for HDR usage. The phone will utilize a "pill shaped notch", similar to the current design philosophy for the iPhone 17 lineup, to house its front facing camera sensors and its microphone/speaker assembly.
The phone also sports a 7000 mAh battery, and achieving this in a phone under 8mm thin is a feat of modern battery engineering and placement. 100W fast charging wired via USB C is available alongside 50W fast charging over wireless. In terms of raw processing power the phone will be powered by a Kirin 9010S from HiSilicon, which is reportedly powerful for everyday tasks, and has a capable modem for Chinese mobile networks, however it may not offer flagship level CPU/GPU performance compared to what is offered by Qualcomm and MediaTek at the moment.
The rear of the phone is defined by an aesthetically unique dual round camera module system which will contain the main camera along with ultrawide and periscope cameras, each with high megapixel outputs to assist with general usage and telephoto capabilities. In the middle of the front cameras is the multispectral sensor and along with the main 50 megapixel, 1/2.5 inch front facing camera the device has all the tools for a well featured photography experience.
The cameras on the back include a 200MP, 1/1.28 inch main sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 50MP ultrawide camera that doubles as a macro lens, and a 50MP f/2.2 periscope camera with 3.7X optical zoom for detailed close up shots of far away subjects. This front facing system includes a multispectral sensor which helps it achieve precise color reproduction in real world scenarios.
The Nova 16 Ultra will be available in China in 3 separate storage configurations, all paired with 12 GB of RAM. The 256GB version is priced at CNY 4699 (roughly $690), the 512GB version will go for 5199 yuan (around $770) and the 1TB version will be released for 5799 yuan (around $860) though international availability is not yet confirmed.
