Microsoft Surface Pro 12 Debuts With Snapdragon X2 Silicon Revamped Internal Hardware OLED Display Options And Higher Memory Capacity

Microsoft have updated its consumer hardware offering by releasing the Surface Pro 12. Replacing its predecessor it now switches over to Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2. Physically identical to its predecessor as the Surface Pro 11 it has internally completely revamped and supports a higher capacity for RAM and a power efficient system for its performance levels.

The 12 inch device continues to feature a 3:2 aspect ratio display which offers a resolution of 2880 x 1920 at 267 PPI. Still offered with both an IPS display and a premium OLED panel. They both retain a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak standard brightness level of 600nits, although the premium OLED model can output 900nits at peak for HDR content. Dimensions wise it remains the same as the predecessor at 287 x 209 x 9.3mm and weighs 895grams without the detachable Type Keyboard or Flex Keyboard.

The significant upgrade lies within the processors now featuring the Snapdragon X2 platform. This can be ordered with two specific versions which include the 10 core Snapdragon X2 Plus and a more powerful 12 core Snapdragon X2 Elite. Memory capacity is vastly increased with options available for 16, 24, 32 or 64 Gigabytes of LPDDR5X RAM and is coupled by either a 256, 512 or 1 Terabyte M2 2230 solid state drive (user replaceable).

According to Microsoft's own estimations, due to its silicon upgrade it boasts a 15% increase in battery life from its predecessor the Surface Pro 11. Microsoft claim it can perform up to 11.5 hours of web browsing at a time. These figures were calculated while managing to increase the speed thanks to its new processors.

The Surface Pro 12 can be purchased in three different color schemes which include Dune, Black and Platinum and can also be accompanied by matching color Flex Keyboard covers. Starting configurations of the tablet feature the Snapdragon X2 Plus paired with 16Gigabytes of RAM, a 256Gigabyte solid state drive and an IPS display, which will retail for $1,499 (a 50% price increase from the Surface Pro 11 when initially released).
