Thief The Dark Project Remastered Announced by Nightdive Studios for PC and Consoles Including KEX Engine Rebuild and Original Cast Return
PC Gaming Show sees the official announcement of Thief The Dark Project Remastered by Nightdive Studios. The influential stealth action game is being ported to modern platforms, with Stephen Kick, studio head, stating that the team are working on a full rebuild of the game, from the original Dark Engine onto their proprietary KEX Engine, in an effort to retain the dark and tense atmosphere of the original while still including gameplay and visual additions.
All campaigns and level design are to be included in the remaster, having acquired the full content of the original Thief Gold expansion package, making this release focused on the digital preservation aspect of the game, the legacy version will remain available for purchase on digital stores rather than be delisted with modern remasters. Also included in the package are the archival development materials and behind the scenes assets. Also added to include new play opportunities is creation tool support to further allow compatibility with existing custom campaigns.
The original cast is also being brought back into the development, with Stephen Russell re voicing Garret and Terri Brosius as Victoria, though at the time it was not disclosed whether they were re recording the original dialogue, or recording new material. Thief The Dark Project Remastered is to be released this winter across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch and Switch 2.
