OpenAI Expands Conversational Advertising Pilot to South Korea

OpenAI Launches Conversational Ad Pilot in South Korea Targeting Free Users While Protecting Privacy and Sensitive Topics

OpenAI’s experimental conversational ad pilot has reached South Korea, marking the service’s first major introduction to an Asian market. The region follows in the footsteps of a 5 nation pilot that already includes the United States, Canada, the UK, New Zealand and Australia and is aimed to create another avenue of income for the AI development company, while also keeping access to AI useful for mass audiences without cost.

Targeting a specific demographic Free users and Go subscribers (Adult Only), Paid (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu) will not feature any ads, and sensitive topics and child accounts have all of those suppressed to protect minors or any suspected under aged accounts, and also suppressions in relation to any of those or to a sensitive matter like health related discussion or politics.

The company implemented guidelines to ensure no user trust is lost, with all ads clearly visually distinguished from AI generated responses and labelled as “Sponsored content”, not “Here are ads that have no influence from outside and there’s no fact to get influenced from on how we will make output because we do not get paid to take input from you for our output, that we ensure user is secure to chat about anything.”

Advertisers will not know any personal info or anything individual. Businesses who will show ads will get reports based on the aggregate stats like “views and clicks”.

Kim Kyoung hoon the GM for OpenAI Korea made a point about the utility of ads “AI from OpenAI exists for everyone around the world to BenefitFrom. Advertisement helps to widen that access, so many people who have the need and intent to benefit from it will continue to do so without facing costs.”

Consumer Controls, can mute this type of ad, report that there should not have been an ad or is one now with irrelevance and can personalize the preference for these ads in their account setting page.

OpenAI will gather information from those regional consumer surveys until then a regional consumer survey is performed to help adjust things like, are these useful.
