Silent Hill Original Game Fan Made PC Port Created by KushAstronaut Offers Native Support and AI Aided Performance

In the middle of the full fledged, official remake of the original Silent Hill now in development from Bloober Team, a fan has made it possible to play the original on PC. A programmer, who goes by the online handle KushAstronaut, has released a full native PC port of the survival horror game, freeing it up from its console boundaries. The port gives gamers a way to actually play the very first Silent Hill game without using emulation software.

The port also includes a list of modernization features for current PC setups, namely support for ultra wide monitor resolutions and high resolutions.

To facilitate the game's decompilation, KushAstronaut made use of the Claude Opus AI to aid with the complicated decompilation process from the game's original assembly code. This port comes with its own special game launcher, that allows you to freeze frame rates, set any controller profile you wish, and even entirely skip the introductory cinema. Even though the translation was pretty successful, the creator of the port admits that the project is not entirely bug free. The chainsaw, jackhammer and some other heavy weapons causes small visual, audio, and gameplay glitches, while many other graphical and cinematic special effects that are used in significant boss encounters still need optimization.

All files pertaining to the project can be found at the project's GitHub repository, where you can download and run the executable and launcher.

It's certainly an impressive undertaking considering that the game was originally released for the PlayStation back in the late 90s and will give many players the first chance to play the classic horror in its own environment without relying on emulators.
