Robert Henrysson Steps Down as Supermassive Games CEO Following Directive 8020 Release

Supermassive Games CEO Robert Henrysson Resigns as Nordisk Games Appoints Graeme Law Following Directive 8020 Launch and Strategic Leadership Transitions

Robert Henrysson has resigned as Partner at Nordisk Games, the parent company that owns the horror centric Supermassive Games, and stepped down as CEO of portfolio studio Supermassive Games. Henrysson joined the London based developer in early 2024 to oversee a key period of production. Graeme Law has been appointed Interim CEO to lead the developer through its next phase.

The official press release from Nordisk Games on linkedin characterizes the departure of Henrysson as a natural transition following the completion of the horror title Directive 8020. The publisher referred to the game as the latest entry in the Dark Pictures series and stated it was “well received by the critics under Henrysson’s leadership.” The company statement also credits Henrysson for “re building a leadership team and sharpening the strategic direction of the company” during a period of intense industry change.

However, independent industry sources suggest a different narrative. Many gaming journalists consider the rapid executive shift a consequence of Directive 8020 failing to meet financial expectations. While Supermassive Games achieved massive success with 2015’s Until Dawn, industry analysts note that the Dark Pictures series has struggled to match that earlier popularity despite significant gameplay changes introduced in Directive 8020.

Henrysson issued a thank you statement to employees reflecting on his career within the umbrella company. Before his time at Supermassive Games, Henrysson served as Chairman and interim CEO of Avalanche Studios Group, where he helped significantly increase studio revenue and profit. Henrysson plans to focus on his family and private investment portfolio before pursuing advisory roles within the interactive entertainment space.

The current executive team, led by new interim CEO Graeme Law, will work alongside Morgan Habedank, the Chief Financial Officer at Nordisk Film, and Stefania Halldorsdottir, CEO of Avalanche Studios Group. This group will manage the studio transition as Supermassive Games begins work on new unannounced projects.
