Safari Makeover at WWDC 2026: AI Tab Sorting & Background Page Monitoring

Apple Safari Re Imagined Functionalities Including Automated Tab Sorting Notify Me Tracker and Batch Password Remediation

Apple’s native web browser received a major functional overhaul during today’s developer keynote. Safari is leveraging Apple Intelligence to automate heavy tab management and actively monitor content changes on live web servers in the background.

No more manually juggling multiple tabs when dealing with the dozen or so you leave open while trying to keep track of a story: Safari now has the ability to automatically sort all your open tabs into dynamic topic columns. On top of that, the new Notify Me functionality enables users to command Safari in natural language to keep a close watch on any given tab (stock tickers and live event coverage were some examples given) in the background and push an immediate, native system alert to your device the moment that page content updates.

Also coming to the Safari extension ecosystem is the Describe an Extension feature, enabling developers and heavy power users to define and/or prompt the layout of extensions with simple text requests. Looking at security, Apple's standalone Passwords app also has a ton of new AI capabilities; not only will it actively inform users of breaches affecting the third party services they have accounts with, it will also automatically attempt to batch update the passwords for those services for you using secure, on device keys.
