Sharp Aquos R11 Launched in Japan with Leica Optics and IP Protection

Sharp Aquos R11 smartphone arrives in Japan with Pro IGZO OLED display and Leica tuned cameras alongside Snapdragon hardware

Sharp has further refreshed its portfolio in its domestic market, with the official arrival of the Aquos R11 smartphone. According to its own specifications documentation which it released for Japan, the handset features a combination of robust environmental resistance, top tier display performance and advanced mobile imaging. With its new hardware focus and advanced photography tuning which it achieved in collaboration with Leica, the smartphone goes on sale now.

To the front of the device is where we have a large 6.5 inch Pro IGZO OLED panel which is capable of producing a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a peak brightness of up to 3600 nits in specific conditions. A circular hole punch camera array is present at the top of the display where we have a 50.3 megapixel camera for high resolution selfies. As for the hardware, a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset powers the Aquos R11, and it comes bundled with 12 gigabytes of RAM and 512 gigabytes of storage space. For battery life there is a 5100 mAh system, powered via a 36 watt charger that can support fast charging.

The cameras of the smartphone is a main focus as they have been tuned with the help of Leica. At the rear we have a triple camera system that consists of a 50.3 megapixel wide angle glass sensor, a 50.3 megapixel ultrawide sensor and lastly a 38.5 megapixel telephoto zoom lens. Artificial Intelligence software has been embedded to aid in photography, with automatic adjustment of zoom according to subjects. In terms of additional hardware for the camera system, a small integrated ring light on the camera array has also been designed, which is capable of being synchronised with a new white noise setting which helps users to relax before sleeping, or during their resting hours.

Beyond its high end display and advanced camera system, Sharp is pushing boundaries with its IP rating. The Aquos R11 is an odd combination of all of 4 different IP certifications, including the relevant ones of IPX5, IPX8, IPX9, and IP6X certifications which make the phone resilient against dust as well as immersion into water and high pressure water jets. Connectivity to accessories such as Bluetooth speakers and earphones are aided by Bluetooth 6.0, whilst general networking is enabled by the fast and efficient Wi Fi 7 standard. Sharp has not announced the pricing or availability of the device yet but they likely will so.
