Sony LYTIA 610 64MP Image Sensor Mass Production Begins with First RB2x2 Architecture to Enhance High End Mobile Telephoto Photography
Sony is starting mass production on its LYTIA 610 64MP image sensor, the company says will be used to enhance the photography on high end mobile devices. Sony said its new, 64MP hardware represents the industrys first mass produced RB2x2 On Chip Lens architecture in mobile imaging sensors,
which aims to provide a blend of sharp stills capture with fast focus. Two types of On Chip Lens structure on a single sensor rb2x2 with shared microlens.
The two types of microlenses on the LYTIA 610 sensor, red and blue are integrated with each other and function as phase detect AF; greens will retain a traditional 1x1 microlens.
Each on chip lens for red or blue pixels comprises four subpixels clustered under a single microlens these act as phase detection autofocus sensor points distributed across the sensor. Those microlenses and signal processing magic make the image processor have over 20 percent higher spatial resolution than Sonys equivalent pixel size on earlier products.
This is well suited for telephoto zoom modules,
Sony officials said, where details from far away shots are critical. The sensors also benefit from an on chip acceleration of the data reading process and will support 4K 120 fps video capture for slow motion with dual exposure control as well as 4K60 HDR video capture.
