Ubisoft Will Keep Original Rayman Legends on Sale After Retold Release

Ubisoft Rayman Legends Original Version Remains On Sale After Retold Launch To Preserve Game History

Unlike the usual trend within the video games industry, Ubisoft has stated that they will be leaving the original release of Rayman Legends on digital stores, unlike other publishers of legacy games. The trend for publishers in recent years is to silently remove the older title off sale when a remaster or remake of a game is released, just as Rockstar Games did when they removed the original copies of Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas after the release of Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy The Definitive Edition.

the French publisher said this. Fans had already grown weary of seeing older versions of games disappear off digital platforms following the removal of the original Yakuza 0 shortly after the launch of the Yakuza 0 Directors Cut, which Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio confirmed would be removed to avoid confusing players with two editions of the same title available for purchase. This allows gamers to still choose between playing Rayman Legends and the remade version should they choose.

Though it has been confirmed that the base game will remain available, Ubisoft has not been willing to comment on whether or not they will be keeping the online modes for the original version available. The thirteen year old platformer utilizes a server based daily and weekly challenge system, with these challenges offering virtual cups and points, requiring persistent maintenance of server systems. It is yet to be seen if this will remain active or whether they will switch off the older legacy servers after the newer version of the game gains traction.

Rayman Legends Retold is out on the 1st October and is confirmed to release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch 2. While it is likely this latest version will boast improvements visually and on performance, keeping the original copy around keeps the entire history of the revered 2D platformer intact.
