Vampire Survivors Developer poncle Pulls Out of Epic Games Fortnite Collaboration Over Generative AI Tools Concerns and Unreal Engine 6 AI Direction

Indie studio poncle pulled out of its intended collaboration with Epic Games in response to a recent State of Unreal presentation that featured a glimpse into the companys upcoming development workflow, especially given its announcement regarding the creation of future game content with generative tools in Fortnite. Developer poncle, responsible for Vampire Survivors, stated their concern about the pervasive presence of automated tools.

Epic Games previously announced a number of high profile video game collaborations planned to be coming to Fortnite. These included the announced crossovers Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, Control Resonant, S Games Phantom Blade Zero, and Vampire Survivors. At the same presentation Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney had revealed the game engine giants intention of having its future UE 6 architecture feature the integration of AI tools that can perform generative functions, or generate automated content.

The announcement of automated content generation appears to have come as a complete shock to the indie development team at poncle, who released a statement earlier this morning explaining they could no longer proceed under the current agreement due to their apprehension towards the direction that automated content creation is heading.

Other studios who were listed in the collaboration presentation including SEGA and Remedy Entertainment, who also had collaborations with Fortnite, have yet to comment on the news but it comes just one day before Epic Games unveiled a demo which detailed how the studio uses artificial intelligence for content generation for their game, highlighting the Nano Banana Pro neural network to create concept artwork for the developers games.
