Microsoft launch strategy debate on X underscores conflicting reports regarding Gears of War E Day Xbox exclusivity and PlayStation 5 logo rumors
An online debate on social media, X, has underscored the conflicting approaches toward Microsoft launch strategies. In an article published on X, an industry journalist, Tom Warren, reported that a last minute decision had been made by Xbox to launch the upcoming title, Gears of War E Day, as an Xbox exclusive. In support of this assertion, he shared an image from a newly posted Xbox podcast video showing a briefly visible PlayStation 5 logo on the game artwork which was swiftly removed by Microsoft.
Hey Tom, I can confirm this is not true. We just limited the knowledge of this news to a very small internal group. Intention was to share this news first with our players and everyone watching showcase.

The publication of Warren's report nearly 18 hours before the official response by Xbox, seemed to suggest that the decision for a multi platform release had been in place until just prior to the promotion. Critics quickly pointed to Microsoft's deletion of the video as evidence that there had been an accidental leak about an extended release plan that was abandoned in the last minute.
On the same platform, the vice president of Xbox games marketing, Aaron Greenberg, publicly refutes these claims stating that the rumors of a strategy shift are incorrect. According to Greenberg, Gears of War E Day was always going to be an Xbox exclusive and that the exclusivity had been tightly guarded secret within the organization for a while before it was eventually released.
Greenberg added that Microsoft had intentionally restricted knowledge of its exclusivity status to a handful of internal individuals before the launch so that information could be revealed first to players as a surprise during the broadcast live event. The official explanation by Xbox is that the removal of the podcast artwork was due to administrative mistake.
The situation comes at a time when Microsoft is facing a lot of examination from industry professionals due to its current strategy of keeping certain games exclusive to its own platform while launching selected first party games for its rival systems. However, Xbox maintains that key franchises such as Gears of War are important to its Xbox console strategies.
