A new budget gaming processor has arrived from AMD. Built for the AM5 socket, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D features 8 cores and uses the popular 3D V Cache technology to boost gaming performance. The chip is currently available in the US and Canada priced at $329.
The processor runs on the Zen 4 architecture and packs 96 MB of L3 cache to handle gaming demands. The hardware layout delivers 16 threads and operates with a base frequency of 4.0 GHz. Under peak loads, the chip reaches a boost speed of 4.5 GHz, which sits 500 megahertz below the Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor.
System builders can drop this CPU into existing AM5 builds without needing a new motherboard. The chip is fully compatible with older and newer chipsets including A620, X670E, X670, B650E, B650, X870E, X870, B840, and B850. It supports dual channel DDR5 5200 memory, giving users plenty of upgrade flexibility.
The chip operates with a 120W TDP, meaning standard cooling systems should keep the processor stable. The maximum safe operating temperature is set at 89 degrees Celsius. Given the low entry price and solid specifications, AMD is targeting budget builders looking for an upgrade over standard non X3D silicon.
