Framework Customizable Desktop for Local AI Powered by AMD Ryzen and 192 GB Unified Memory

Framework has announced a customizable desktop computer designed specifically for running large language models locally. The system features a powerful AMD processor paired with a massive 192 GB of unified memory to support complex AI workloads without relying on remote cloud servers. However, early industry estimates suggest the price tag for this massive configuration could easily exceed 5000 dollars.

The hardware relies on the AMD Ryzen AI MAX Plus 495 processor. This chip features 16 Zen 5 cores running at clock speeds up to 5.2 GHz. Graphics processing is managed by an integrated Radeon 8065S chip containing 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units. According to official performance data released by Framework, this layout can run the DeepSeek V4 Flash model in Q8 mode while leaving plenty of memory space to expand the active context window.

Memory bandwidth is a major focus for local AI performance. The desktop includes 192 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory that achieves a transfer speed of 273 GB per second. This is a clear step up from the previous generation on the Ryzen AI MAX Plus PRO 395, which maxed out at 128 GB of memory and 256 GB per second speeds. To allow for easier upgrades, the mainboard has an open PCIe x4 slot for larger physical expansion cards.

Framework also demonstrated how multiple systems can work together. They showcased a prototype cluster combining 2 desktops connected through 50 GbE network adapters. This setup pools the hardware to deliver 384 GB of memory, allowing developers to split computational tasks between the machines. Buyers looking for an alternative to Windows will also be able to purchase a version with a Linux distribution preinstalled.

The manufacturer has not yet shared an official retail price for the new desktop. Framework warned that rising costs for LPDDR5X memory will make this 192 GB model far more expensive than the standard 128 GB option. Early industry estimates suggest the starting price could land above 5000 dollars when the PC goes on sale.
