Hasbro has canceled several unannounced video game projects slated for release in 2028 and beyond. Following a 2nd quarter financial report, the company decided to scale back its internal digital development pipeline to focus on core partners. This strategic shift resulted in an asset write down of 56,000,000 dollars.
Chief Executive Chris Cocks explained that the management team spent multiple quarters reviewing their interactive portfolio. This evaluation led to the conclusion that certain early stage projects did not meet the new corporate standards for profitability. Despite the cuts, the publisher is not abandoning the digital space entirely. Promising titles like Exodus from Archetype Entertainment and a project codenamed Warlock remain in active development.
The gaming push originally gained momentum after the massive commercial success of Baldurs Gate 3. However, internal development proved difficult, leading to the cancellation of multiple Dungeons and Dragons games over the past few years. After 2026, the company plans to reduce spending on internal studios. Instead, Hasbro will rely on external development partners to build games for its most valuable intellectual properties, including Magic The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons.
