Land Rover has unveiled the Range Rover GT, the first non SUV model in the history of the brand. The new 4 door electric grand tourer pairs a sloping roofline with a minimalist interior and a new EMA platform. However, the company has yet to share any technical specifications regarding its power output or driving range.
The vehicle runs on the new EMA architecture and will launch exclusively as a battery electric vehicle. Land Rover designed the platform to support a hybrid variant with a gasoline engine at a later stage. Production is slated for the Halewood facility in the United Kingdom, where the brand already manufactures standard and hybrid powerplants.
The interior introduces a clean design language that removes almost all physical controls. Buttons are gone. Drivers will view a standalone digital screen for instruments while a large central multimedia display dominates the dashboard. The design conceals the air vents entirely, and fabric upholstery hides the integrated speakers. The results are seamless. Passengers in the back get 2 individual seats separated by a central control console.
Land Rover intends to combine high end grand touring comfort with its signature off road capability. Martin Limpert, the head of Range Rover, stated that the team spent years reimagining the GT concept to create the most car like vehicle in the history of the brand. He noted that the model will keep the traditional qualities of the mark, including excellent comfort, long range, and the ability to move confidently off the pavement. Prototypes are currently undergoing final road testing, with a full public debut scheduled for later this year.
